CUFI Talking Points: Terrorism is terrorism

Terrorism is Terrorism

A wave of unprecedented terrorism is sweeping the globe. Our oldest ally, France, is reeling from its own “9/11” and Israelis continue to deal with stabbings, shootings, and vehicular attacks. It has been confirmed that Tashfeen Malik, the female shooter and wife of terrorist Syed Farook, had publicly pledged loyalty to ISIS.For its part, the terror group praised its “young lions” in California, bringing the “faraway” terror threat to America in the worst attack since 9/11. Tragically, it appears that Farook specifically targeted a co-worker, Nicholas Thalasinos, a Messianic believer, after the two had argued about Islam.

Yet some in the international community fail to recognize terrorism as terrorism.  Yesterday, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven claimed that the stabbings in Israel are not terrorism.  He later tried to clarify his remarks, but his message was heard loud and clear. We strongly agree with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu that  “there isn’t one moral standard for Israel and one for the rest of the world.”

Let us resolve never to be silent in the face of such atrocities. Let us resolve to treat Israeli lives with just as much respect as French and American lives. And let us send a strong signal to all those who target innocent life – you will not prevail.

5 Arab Israelis arrested for IS support, planning terror attacks

Israel has arrested five Israeli Arabs from Nazareth on suspicion of supporting the Islamic State and preparing to carry out terror attacks, the Shin Bet security service announced Tuesday. The cell’s members, all reportedly members of the same family, were arrested in October and November in a joint operation of the Shin Bet and Israel Police, according to officials.

Islamic State’s Sinai Chief Said in Gaza to Coordinate with Hamas

Shadi al-Menei meets with terror chiefs in Strip to boost joint efforts to target Egypt and Israel, TV report says. The commander of Islamic State forces in the Sinai is currently on what was intended to be a secret visit to the Gaza Strip, meeting with Hamas terror leaders to widen their cooperation and coordinate attacks on Egyptian and Israeli targets, Israeli television reported Thursday.

Telling A Distorted Story

The Israeli-Palestinian confrontation is complicated, and would be even without the bad faith that is the region’s chief export. Many elements in the conflict go back to the 1930s, and are layered one atop the other, making peace impossible and even cease-fire difficult. The European elites and the blind left in the United States argue that the mere Israeli presence on the West Bank and in East Jerusalem is a form of violence. No one can ignore the constant interplay between the Israeli military power, which maintains its presence there, and the Palestinian population.
